“Even if my goals are outrageously, totally insane, I’d rather reach for the sky.” Serena Williams; Harper’s Bazaar July 2018.
And so begins the next chapter of my life! This week’s instalment is tennis themed with a brilliant article and summary of enthralling matches. It is also a week of hard goodbyes and prepping for new beginnings.
- READ: The article on Serena Williams in Harper’s Bazaar this month made the champion, the athlete, the superwoman appear more human and fragile. I have always admired Serena for her pure strength and dominance on the court but have found it hard to warm to her, always seeming so tough and aggressive. But this new chapter on Serena is one which breaks her down, gives everyone a different view and where she opens up. Not only is the photo-shoot pure brilliance but the article discusses her difficult child birth, her amazing career achievements, the adversity she has faced growing up and her wishes for her daughter. - WATCH: Tennis – The French Open quarter final between Novak Djokovic and Marco Cecchinato, the 25-year-old Italian (world number 72), where Cecchinato played the match of his life and the tie-breaker of the tournament to hold off 3 set points from Djokovic and convert the 3rd into a match win. Before this year’s French Open began, Cecchinato had never won a main-draw match at a Grand Slam! Roland Garros this year does seem to be the Grand Slam of the underdog, and how we love that. Talk about a start to the tournament when lucky looser Marco Trungelliti (world number 190) drove for 9 hours overnight from Barcelona to Paris just to take part in a match up again Tomic… and won! We love a success story like this and a win like that for Marco is going to help him be able to afford to travel the tour circuit for the next year. Maybe it is something about Marco? And how can I talk tennis and not mention my favourite… Rafael Nadal. Who has just won his 11th French Open title! He is such an unbelievable champion and I just love to watch him play, Rafa on clay is pure magic. If you want to follow my tennis ramblings and thoughts check out my Twitter.
